This project aimed to delve deep into the site and analyze the pre-existing context of where we would place a market. My design was planned in correlation to the urban fabric and to try to enhance certain already present characteristics. Seeing as though Sunnyside Gardens is part of NYCHA, my market’s goal was to “humanize housing” through the ever-present Hispanic community and its ideals. Giving residents the space and opportunity to take control of aspects outside of the low-income housing politics allows them the opportunity to take ownership of space that constantly reminds them it's not theirs.
